For this project, I combined type and image to create something visually interesting through optical effect. I chose to do Vice President, Kamala Harris’ memoir about her 2024 Presidential Campaign, 107 Days.
Challenge
With the original book cover, the type was just the title, 107 Days, then Kamala Harris in the front. In the back was the numbers leading up to 107. I felt that the book cover could do better job at representing what Kamala was trying to advocate for during her presidential run.
Solution
I made the title out of red and white rectangles and put them inside a bigger white rectangle to resemble the American Flag. I also traced an image of Kamala Harris then made it look like she was speaking to a crowd behind a podium with her name on it. The supporting text is how she ended her speeches by saying “When we fight…,” then the crowd would say “…We win,” which is something that Kamala emphasized all throughout her campaign.
